This technological integration enables the production of high-quality steel products designed for exceptional durability, with a lifespan of up to 30 years.

This significant investment is expected to meet the increasing demand for steel products within Uganda, simultaneously expanding the nation’s manufacturing footprint. It also aims to solidify Uganda’s position as a key regional production hub, serving markets across East Africa.

During the inauguration, President Museveni lauded Dr. Sikandar Lalani, Chairman of Roofings Group Uganda, and his team for their pivotal role in advancing Uganda’s industrialization agenda. He highlighted the company’s contributions to import substitution and value addition, aligning with the government’s long-term vision for a self-sustaining economy.

“This investment is an important step in our industrialization journey. It strengthens local value addition, creates employment opportunities for our people and reduces dependence on imported intermediate products,” President Museveni stated. He further emphasized the importance of utilizing Uganda’s rich iron ore resources to build a competitive domestic steel industry.

President Museveni also pointed out that Roofings Uganda currently generates an annual turnover of Shs1.2 trillion and provides employment for over 2,000 Ugandans, underscoring the company’s significant economic impact.

The government reiterated its commitment to promoting intra-regional trade, with President Museveni pledging to address trade barriers within the East African Community (EAC) to facilitate the free movement of goods and business.

Dr. Sikandar Lalani expressed his pride in the inauguration, calling it a major milestone for Roofings Group in advancing local manufacturing and contributing to Uganda’s industrial growth.
