Minister Witonze, MPs Tour Police HQ to Boost Force-Parliament Ties

State Minister for Internal Affairs, Juma Witonze, has led a delegation from the Parliamentary Committee on Defence and Internal Affairs on a visit to the Uganda Police Force Headquarters in Naguru. The primary objective of this engagement was to foster a stronger working relationship between the legislative body and the police force.

During the visit, the delegation was warmly received by the Inspector General of Police, Abas Byakagaba. The discussions centered on improving collaboration, gaining deeper insights into the daily operations of the police, and identifying the various challenges that impact the force’s effectiveness in service delivery.

Minister Witonze emphasized that this interaction was crucial for Parliament to better comprehend the obstacles faced by the police in their efforts to maintain law and order. He stated, “We are here to strengthen the relationship between Parliament and the police and to understand the challenges affecting effective service delivery.”

The minister took the opportunity to commend the police leadership and the rank-and-file officers for their unwavering commitment to upholding law and order across the country. He urged them to consistently adhere to principles of professionalism, integrity, and accountability in all their duties.

“We expect the police to continue serving Ugandans with professionalism, integrity and respect for the law,” Witonze added, reinforcing the high standards expected of the force. The visit also served as a platform for committee members to directly address critical issues concerning national security, policing strategies, and the overall welfare of police officers with the force’s leadership.
