Tragedy struck the Kampala-Gulu Highway in Luweero District in the early hours of Saturday, when a multi-vehicle collision claimed the lives of two individuals and left two others injured.

The incident, which took place around 1:30 AM at Naluvule, involved a white Fuso truck (UBA 879L), a red Sino truck loaded with sand (UBJ 984L), and a red Mercedes Actros (CGO 6435AC/07).

According to Savannah Regional Police spokesperson ASP Sam Twineamazima, preliminary findings suggest the Fuso truck, traveling from Kampala towards Luweero, collided with the stationary Mercedes Actros. The Fuso is alleged to have mounted the broken-down vehicle, fatally striking its passenger.

The oncoming Sino truck, attempting to avoid a head-on collision with the Fuso, swerved off the road and overturned. Police reports indicate that strong lights from the Sino truck may have contributed to the initial collision.

The overturned Sino truck tragically killed passengers who were reportedly seated on top of the sand it was carrying. Two unidentified adult males were pronounced dead at the scene.

Two injured passengers were transported to a local clinic for medical attention. The deceased were taken to Luweero Main Hospital mortuary, while the Fuso truck has been impounded at Luweero Police Station. The Sino and Mercedes trucks remain at the accident site, awaiting heavy-duty towing services from Kampala.

Investigations are continuing to fully determine the sequence of events that led to this devastating crash.
