The Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) was recently recognized with a prestigious Founders & Legacy Award for its instrumental role in fostering the growth and development of Uganda’s private sector. This esteemed accolade was bestowed upon the UIA during the 30th Anniversary Dinner of the Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU).
The award ceremony took place on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at the Kampala Serena Hotel. It was a key event during the closing session of the third Annual Regional Industrialization Conference (RIC2026), which coincided with the PSFU’s milestone celebration of three decades of fostering private sector progress and collaboration.
UIA’s commitment to promoting a robust and competitive private sector, including its foundational role in establishing PSFU, was highlighted as the basis for this recognition. During the conference, UIA’s Director of Investment Promotion and Business Development, Peter Muramira, who accepted the award on behalf of UIA Director General Robert Mukiza, shared insights into the authority’s ongoing efforts.
Muramira emphasized UIA’s function as a central platform for investment promotion and business development, focusing on enhancing value addition, bolstering investor support, and dismantling barriers to business operations. He specifically pointed to the One-Stop-Centre as a crucial gateway designed to streamline processes and improve inter-governmental coordination for investors.
He further elaborated on UIA’s capacity to activate production, stating it’s key to Uganda’s economic aspirations. This includes integrating regional value chains and transforming planned investments into tangible realities. The importance of data analysis for strategic investment decisions and regional collaboration was also stressed.
The event also served as a platform for the Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, Hon. Sanjay Tanna, to call for strengthened regional cooperation to boost industrialization and East Africa’s global competitiveness, noting the low share of value-added products and intra-African trade.
The PSFU’s 30th-anniversary celebration underscored the importance of continued government-private sector synergy in driving investment, job creation, and sustainable economic expansion.
