Minister Asiimwe Emphasizes Discipline and Patriotism for Kiira Motors' Growth

Jonard Asiimwe, the Minister for Science, Technology, and Innovation, has called upon the workforce at Kiira Motors Corporation (KMC) to cultivate a strong sense of discipline and patriotism.

During his recent visit and engagement with KMC’s engineers, technicians, and operators, Minister Asiimwe stressed that Uganda’s aspirations to establish a robust domestic automotive industry hinge not only on advanced machinery but crucially on the dedication, skills, and ethical conduct of its people.

He likened the employees’ tools and attire to instruments in a “war” to ensure Uganda supplies the African continent with locally manufactured buses and eventually, vehicles of all types. The minister highlighted the government’s commitment to investing in and retaining the human capital essential for sustaining and expanding the automotive sector.

Asiimwe emphasized that the success of KMC should be gauged by more than just its physical infrastructure; the workforce’s commitment and capabilities are central to Uganda’s industrialization drive. He urged the team to embody patriotism through punctuality, unwavering commitment to their duties, and a firm stance against corruption.

“Being a patriotic citizen means coming to work on time and being willing to go beyond the required time when duty calls. It means refusing bribes and rejecting corruption at every stage of service,” Asiimwe stated.

The minister reiterated that Uganda’s automotive project aims to showcase the nation’s capacity for designing and manufacturing vehicles for both domestic and wider African markets. He concluded by commending the KMC employees, acknowledging that their efforts are instrumental in building Uganda’s engineering and industrial prowess, demonstrating the country’s potential on a global scale.
