Jambojet to Relaunch Nairobi-Entebbe Route After Six-Year Absence

Jambojet, the Kenyan low-cost airline, is gearing up to re-enter the Nairobi-Entebbe air corridor on October 1, following a significant six-year break. The airline’s Chief Executive Officer, Karanja Ndegwa, confirmed the relaunch, emphasizing its strategic importance for regional connectivity.
The route will feature daily flights, with Jambojet aiming to provide an affordable and reliable travel experience. One-way fares are slated to begin at approximately $170, positioning the airline competitively within the market. Beyond passenger services, Jambojet also plans to introduce cargo and parcel delivery, facilitating trade and the movement of goods between Kenya and Uganda.
Initially launched in 2018, Jambojet’s operations in Uganda were curtailed shortly after due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Further plans for resumption were postponed in November 2021 amidst ongoing travel restrictions and reduced demand across East Africa.
“Our return to Uganda is a strategic step forward in our mission to strengthen regional connectivity,” stated Ndegwa during a recent stakeholder engagement in Kampala. “We see significant opportunities to support business, tourism, and trade between Kenya and Uganda while providing travellers with an affordable, reliable, and convenient flying experience.”
Industry projections anticipate around 300,000 passengers traveling between Nairobi and Entebbe in 2026. Jambojet’s daily service is expected to offer Ugandan travelers enhanced options for onward journeys to popular Kenyan coastal destinations such as Mombasa, Diani, Malindi, and Lamu.
The airline, which expanded its fleet to 11 aircraft and carried its 10 millionth passenger earlier this year, reported an 86.45% on-time performance in July. The Uganda Tourism Board has welcomed the resumption, anticipating positive impacts on travel, trade, and tourism within the region.
