Veteran musician Ronald Mayinja has showered praise on contemporary artist King Saha for the resounding success of his recent concert held at the Kololo Airstrip.
Mayinja, a respected figure in Uganda’s music scene, described the event as one of the most significant music spectacles ever witnessed not only in Uganda but also across the wider East African region. He stated that Saha’s accomplishment is something that previous generations of musicians could only aspire to.
“What Saha has done is something no one has ever done in Uganda and East Africa at large. I have always said that the musicians who came after us would do things that even we never did,” Mayinja remarked.
Reflecting on the past, Mayinja highlighted the immense challenges that artists from his era would have faced attempting to organize a concert of such magnitude. He suggested that even legendary artists would have required extensive collaboration and prolonged promotional efforts to fill a venue like Nakivubo Stadium.
“Even the legendary musicians, for us, would have had to come together as musicians and advertise for a very long time to fill a venue like Nakivubo. But Saha filled this stadium, organised it, announced it and did everything. That is legendary,” he elaborated, underscoring Saha’s independent success.
For Mayinja, King Saha’s triumph at Kololo is more than just a single successful show; it represents a major leap forward for the entire Ugandan music industry. The concert has ignited discussions about the most impactful musical events in Uganda’s history, with Mayinja firmly positioning Saha’s performance as a pivotal moment.
