Reach A Hand Africa Celebrates 99 Graduating Peer Educators

Reach A Hand Africa (RAHA) marked a significant milestone on July 31st, 2026, with the graduation of 99 peer educators from its 2025 class.

The graduates of the Peer Educators Academy were awarded certificates of service at a ceremony held at RAHA’s headquarters in Lungujja.

The event was graced by notable figures including the Minister of State for Mineral Development, Phiona Nyamutoro, and the Female Workers’ Representative Member of Parliament, Fiona Nakku.

An Alumni Connect session also took place, fostering a network among past and present graduates of the academy, which was established in 2014. This provided a platform for sharing experiences and inspiring the new cohort.

Minister Nyamutoro commended RAHA for its work in empowering youth and promoting behavioral change through peer education. She encouraged the graduates to continue learning and sharing their knowledge to build stronger communities.

“There is no script for becoming a leader. You become one by watching, learning, and serving others,” Nyamutoro stated.

She also advocated for policy reviews concerning adolescent and sexual reproductive health to better meet the evolving needs of young people.

MP Fiona Nakku urged the graduates to see the ceremony as the start of their leadership journey, emphasizing the impact of small, consistent actions in addressing issues like school dropout and teenage pregnancy.

“This journey begins today. Start with the little things. Influence your communities positively by helping reduce school dropout and teenage pregnancies. That is how we shall measure your impact,” she advised.

RAHA’s board chairperson, Charles Owekmeno, challenged the graduates to apply their acquired knowledge, stating that their true success would be measured by the positive changes they bring to their communities.

“Management has done its part. The onus is now on you, the peer educators, to make it work by translating what you have learnt into meaningful change within your communities,” Owekmeno remarked.

Humphrey Nabimanya, CEO of RAHA, described the graduation as the commencement of a movement of young leaders dedicated to transforming communities across the continent.

The Peer Educators Academy trains young individuals aged 18-30 in crucial areas of Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH), including consent, family planning, and HIV prevention, equipping them with skills for peer-led engagement and community outreach over a year-long volunteer period.
