The Ugandan Parliament recently celebrated the “Ghetto Kids,” a young dance troupe from Kampala, for their international accomplishment. The group recently performed at the halftime show of the FIFA World Cup final in the United States, sharing the stage with global music stars Shakira and Burna Boy.

Speaker Jacob Markson Oboth commended the “Ghetto Kids” during a plenary session, emphasizing their performance as a potent symbol of how talent can flourish even in challenging circumstances. He noted that their presence on such a major global stage, performing the World Cup song “Dai Dai,” brought significant pride to Uganda.

The Speaker introduced the young dancers to the members of Parliament, stating that their journey from humble beginnings to international recognition serves as a powerful lesson for young Ugandans. He remarked, “At their age, these young stars, called the Ghetto Kids, have stood on platforms that many can only dream of; carrying our Ugandan flag higher and making Uganda proud.”

Oboth personally connected with their story, suggesting that poverty or a difficult start in life should not limit the ambitions of young people. He added, “They are a powerful reminder that talent can come from anywhere and that with opportunity and determination, our young people can rise to extraordinary heights.”

Members of Parliament, including the Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Joel Ssenyonyi, and Hon. John Baptist Nambeshe, echoed the Speaker’s praise, characterizing the “Ghetto Kids’” success as a testament to perseverance and the potential that exists within Uganda’s youth.

The “Ghetto Kids,” founded by Dauda Kavuma, have previously gained international attention through viral videos and appearances on shows like “Britain’s Got Talent.” Before the parliamentary session, the group also met with the Speaker to discuss their request for support in building a Shs13 billion skills center aimed at empowering vulnerable youth across Uganda.
