Abdallah Bogere, a 35-year-old social media influencer widely recognized as “True Leader” on TikTok, has been granted bail by the Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court. Bogere faces a charge of sending false distress signals, contrary to Section 82 of the Uganda Communications Act, which he has denied.
The accusation stems from videos Bogere allegedly circulated on TikTok between August 3 and 4, 2026. The prosecution claims these videos, posted via accounts @trueleader123 and @Planned Mulekwa, falsely implicated him and others in the theft of Shs7 billion from Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, the head of the Office of the National Chairman (ONC).
In her ruling, Chief Magistrate Ritah Neumbe Kidasa stated that Bogere was entitled to bail and saw no compelling reasons for his continued detention. She set his cash bail at Shs1 million, with his sureties bonded on a non-cash bond of Shs5 million. Crucially, the court has ordered Bogere to refrain from making any further false accusations while on bail, warning that any violation would result in the cancellation of his bond.
While the defense presented three sureties, including a local councillor, a businesswoman, and his wife, the prosecution had requested more time to complete background checks. However, the court proceeded with granting bail under the specified conditions. Investigations into the matter are reportedly in their final stages, and the case has been adjourned to September 2026 for further mention.
