A crucial trial concerning multiple murders at Kiboga Prison, scheduled to commence on Monday, August 17, 2026, has been postponed. This adjournment comes as a direct result of insufficient funds allocated by the Judiciary to facilitate the proceedings.

The Judiciary’s Public Relations Officer, His Worship Jumire James Ereemye Mawanda, confirmed the delay, stating that while the judge is prepared, essential funding for other stakeholders, including witnesses, has not yet been released.

“The matter has been adjourned and a new date will be communicated. The reason for adjournment is absence of funds to run the session,” Mawanda explained. He added that the next hearing date will be set once the necessary funds become available.

Sources within the court system highlighted that witnesses from outside Kiboga District require financial assistance for travel and accommodation, which is essential for their participation in the trial. Furthermore, the accused, who are currently held in Kitalya and Luzira prisons, need to be transported to Kiboga, a considerable distance, which also requires budget allocation for fuel and personnel allowances.

The trial, presided over by Justice Jane Okuo Kajuga, aims to conclude within a single session at Kiboga High Court. The primary suspect is Prison Warder Moses Anguyo, facing charges of murder, aggravated robbery, and threatening violence. His alleged accomplices, Peter Anziku, Peter Anziku alias Dickson Okwonzi, and Hellen Amviko, are accused of assisting him in evading justice.
