Kangole Girls Secondary School, a cornerstone of female education in Napak District, recently celebrated a momentous milestone: its 50th anniversary. The golden jubilee brought together former students, staff, and community leaders to commemorate half a century of nurturing young minds and empowering the girl child.

Vice President Jessica Alupo, a proud alumna of Kangole Girls, led the festivities. In a speech read on her behalf by President Yoweri Museveni, the President emphasized the critical role of education, particularly in science and Information and Communication Technology (ICT). He urged educators and parents to guide students towards these fields, citing their importance for future employment in the growing private sector and their potential to foster innovation and problem-solving skills.

President Museveni also underscored the sacrifices made by parents and guardians to ensure girls receive an education. He cautioned students against unproductive lifestyles, including substance abuse and promiscuity, encouraging them instead to focus on their studies, maintain good health, and develop a strong moral compass. “Your parents and guardians are making big sacrifices to keep you in school. It will be great indiscipline if you waste away your lives in trivialities,” the President’s message stated, urging them to become future contributors to their families and the nation.

Vice President Alupo shared fond memories of her own time at Kangole Girls in the mid-1980s and early 1990s, recalling her experience as deputy head prefect. The celebration, also attended by Minister of Ethics and Integrity Rose Lilly Akello and Minister for Karamoja Affairs John Baptist Lokii, featured a vibrant atmosphere with an alumni dance, and the Vice President pledged to mentor more girls at the institution.
