Tragedy struck the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway yesterday when a pedestrian was fatally struck at kilometre three, near a notorious sharp bend. This incident, which led to the death of one individual, also resulted in several other injuries.
Emergency response teams, in collaboration with Traffic Police, were swiftly deployed to the scene. Injured victims were evacuated for urgent medical treatment, while the deceased was transported to Mulago Hospital Mortuary by the Uganda Police.
The Kampala-Entebbe Expressway management highlighted the inherent dangers of pedestrians being on the expressway, a route where their presence is strictly prohibited. They recently engaged with local communities to warn against unauthorized access, tampering with safety fences, and using unofficial crossing points.
“Drivers may not expect pedestrians on the Expressway, which is why it is strictly prohibited to walk or cross there,” stated the management, emphasizing the risk to both pedestrians and motorists.
In addition to the fatal incident, multiple other crashes occurred along the Kajjansi-Busega section of the expressway. Traffic in the vicinity is moving slowly as response teams work to clear the affected areas and manage the ongoing medical evacuations.
Motorists are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution, adhere to speed limits, remain alert, and follow traffic guidance while navigating through the affected sections. The expressway management urges neighboring communities to utilize designated crossing points to ensure safety.
