Truck Overturns on Car in Mubende, Killing Two and Injuring Four Children

A devastating crash on the Mubende-Mityana Road has claimed the lives of two adults and left four children injured. The incident happened on Friday evening around 8:25 PM in the Kagavu area of Kalonga Sub-county.

An Actros truck, carrying a trailer, was reportedly traveling from Mubende towards Mityana. While descending a slope at Kagavu, the truck driver is said to have lost control. The vehicle veered into the oncoming lane and subsequently overturned onto a Nissan Murano, trapping the occupants inside.

A coordinated rescue operation, involving a crane, was deployed to carefully remove the trailer and extricate those inside the car. Tragically, two adults in the Nissan sustained fatal injuries at the scene. One of the deceased has been identified as Kaijuka Kenneth, aged 45, while the identity of the second male victim remains unconfirmed.

Four children who were also passengers in the Nissan Murano sustained injuries. They have been identified as Johana Bala (11), Isabella Rebecca (5), Gabriella Kawini (12), and Dorothy (12). The injured children were transported to Mubende Regional Referral Hospital via a police ambulance for medical attention. The bodies of the deceased were also taken to the hospital mortuary.

According to SSP Lameck Kigozi, the Wamala Region Police spokesperson, preliminary investigations suggest that careless driving may have been the cause of the accident. Police are continuing their investigation and have moved the wreckage to the police yard for further examination.

This incident occurs amidst a concerning rise in road traffic accidents in Uganda. In 2025, the country recorded 26,044 road crashes, an increase from 25,107 in 2024, with fatalities also rising from 5,144 to 5,383.
