Manhunt launched in Lwengo over alleged murder and cannibalism

Authorities in Lwengo District have launched a manhunt for a man identified as Habasa Muzaffar, who is suspected of a gruesome crime involving murder and alleged cannibalism. The alarm was raised when a herdsman stumbled upon a sack containing a human skull and a severed hand near Muzaffar’s home in Kigeye B Village, Malongo Sub-County.

Upon receiving the report, local residents and police conducted a search of the property. Inside Muzaffar’s house, they discovered another human hand, a weave, identification documents, and several other human bones. Muzaffar himself is reported to have fled the scene when the house was searched.

Southern Regional Police Spokesperson, Mr. Twaha Kasirye, has urged the public to provide any information that could lead to Muzaffar’s apprehension. He stated that the retrieved body parts have been sent to the mortuary for examination. Police are appealing to anyone who may have lost a female friend or relative to come forward to assist with identification.

If the allegations are proven, Muzaffar could face charges including murder and human cannibalism. The incident has rekindled memories of past alleged cannibalism cases in the region, including a 2014 incident in Rakai District where several individuals were arrested in connection with the murder of a woman and her infant.

Investigations into the current case are ongoing, with police intensifying efforts to locate the suspect. The discovery has sent shockwaves through the community, prompting questions about the nature of such crimes and the ongoing search for evidence.
