Justice Aisha Naluzze Batala, the Inspector General of Government, has issued a stern warning to the Kawempe Muslim Women’s Development Group (KAMUWD) SACCO. She urged the SACCO’s leaders and members to treat government financial support not as a handout, but as a critical opportunity for wealth creation and livelihood improvement.

Represented by Sauda Birabwa, a Principal Inspectorate Officer, Batala stressed that the success of such financial interventions hinges on responsible management by the beneficiaries. She highlighted that a strong SACCO is built on a foundation of trust, integrity, accountability, transparency, and good governance.

Leaders were specifically advised to maintain meticulous financial records, account for all funds, and implement robust measures to prevent corruption and misuse. Members were also encouraged to report any suspected mismanagement or abuse of office through official channels, emphasizing that protecting public resources is a collective duty.

The IGG reiterated the Inspectorate of Government’s constitutional mandate to uphold accountability and monitor the use of public funds, including grants provided to SACCOs. She cautioned that poor financial stewardship could derail the intended benefits of these programs, hindering community development.

Batala urged the women to channel the support towards strengthening savings, accessing affordable credit, and investing in viable enterprises. She also called for the adoption of principles like honesty, discipline, and mutual support within the SACCO’s operations. The IGG recognized the significant impact of women’s economic empowerment on families and communities, noting that empowered women contribute to household resilience, better child welfare, and overall community prosperity.

While commending government initiatives for financial inclusion and wealth creation, Batala underscored the necessity of responsible management by recipients. She stated that government support comes with an obligation to ensure the funds yield sustainable economic benefits for all intended beneficiaries. The IGG also called for enhanced internal accountability mechanisms within KAMUWD SACCO to ensure transparency and build member confidence. “When women are economically empowered, households become more resilient, children receive better opportunities, and communities prosper,” she stated.
