Bishop Kisekka Decries Officials' 'Double Standards' on School Feeding

Bishop Wilson Kisekka has voiced strong concerns over government officials, including politicians, who he believes are undermining church-founded schools through disruptive “spot inspections.” These officials, he argues, are creating an impression that schools are unfairly pressuring parents for welfare contributions like feeding, while simultaneously advocating against such fees.

“Let those people that are issuing threats not come to Luweero, especially in our Church-founded schools,” Bishop Kisekka stated at the Diamond Jubilee celebrations for Luweero Secondary School. He urged respect for the established administrative structures within these institutions.

The Bishop pointed out that many officials enforcing these directives send their own children to expensive private schools where quality meals are provided. He reassured parents to continue supporting their children’s feeding at school, acknowledging the government’s contributions while emphasizing the ongoing need for parental support for a holistic educational environment.

Bishop Kisekka highlighted that while the government funds some teaching staff and provides other aid, schools still rely on parental contributions for essential needs such as infrastructure, classroom development, student meals, and staff welfare. He implored officials to focus on constructive support, like aligning programs with the curriculum, fostering discipline, and enhancing skilling initiatives, rather than issuing threats.

In response, the State Minister for Kampala Metropolitan, Joseph Kabuye Kyofatogabye, who was present, stated that the government’s focus is on ensuring good service delivery and addressing mismanagement or corruption in public resource utilization.

President Yoweri Museveni, represented by Ms. Cissy Mulondo, the State Minister for Finance in charge of General Duties, lauded Luweero Secondary School’s contributions to academic excellence and character development since its inception. He also presented a Shs40 million donation to the school and encouraged continued alignment with the revised curriculum emphasizing science and technology.

The Headteacher, Mr. Ronald Kato, outlined a five-year strategic plan aimed at transforming the school and ensuring an academic-friendly environment for its over 1,500 students.
