Tragedy Strikes Rakai: Four Dead, Ten Hospitalized After Burial Feast

A somber cloud has descended upon Rakai District after a burial ceremony turned tragic. Four people have died, and more than ten others have been admitted to the hospital in Lyantonde District, reportedly after falling ill shortly after consuming beef served at the event.

The deceased are believed to have eaten meat from a bull that was slaughtered for the burial of a man identified only as Umar. Following the ceremony, several attendees began to experience severe illness, prompting urgent medical intervention for many.

Masaka Region Police spokesperson, SP Twaha Kasirye, has confirmed the fatalities and identified three of the victims. They include Charles Bangirana from Kyakabiikwa Village, and Jennifer Ntejerize and Christmas Behekanira, both residents of Mudaala Village in Lwamaggwa Sub-county, Rakai District.

Authorities are launching an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this devastating incident to determine the exact cause of the illness and the subsequent deaths. The community remains concerned as the investigation unfolds, with many seeking answers about the suspected food poisoning. More than ten individuals are currently receiving medical treatment for their ailments.
