Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba: SFC Commanders Must Embrace New Warfare Technology

Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), has issued a strong call to action for commanders within the Special Forces Command (SFC). He stressed the imperative for them to quickly integrate new military technologies into their operations, highlighting that contemporary security challenges demand innovative approaches to warfare.

During a recent handover ceremony at the SFC headquarters in Entebbe, where Major General David Mugisha passed the baton of command to Major General Asaph Mweteise Nyakikuru, Gen. Kainerugaba underscored the dynamic nature of modern conflict. He challenged the SFC leadership to continuously analyze evolving global security landscapes and strategically incorporate relevant technological advancements.

The CDF asserted that staying abreast of technological progress is crucial for the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) to effectively counter and respond to an ever-changing array of security threats. The SFC, a specialized unit within the UPDF, plays a vital role in conducting special operations, safeguarding critical national installations, and providing security for the President and his family.

Reflecting on the SFC’s development, Gen. Kainerugaba recalled his own early military training in 1994, when resources and infrastructure were notably more limited. He commended the dedication and efforts of the officers who have transformed the unit from its origins as the Presidential Protection Unit (PPU) into the sophisticated force it is today.

Gen. Kainerugaba congratulated Maj. Gen. Mugisha on his tenure and service, noting his upcoming course at the National Defence College abroad. He expressed full confidence in Maj. Gen. Nyakikuru’s capability to lead the SFC forward and urged him to build upon the foundations laid by his predecessor. Both outgoing and incoming commanders acknowledged the opportunities and mentorship provided.

The ceremony was attended by several senior UPDF officers, underscoring the significance of this leadership transition within a key security organ.
