Driver in Fatal Nnamulanda Crash Arrested

Authorities have arrested John Baptist Kigozi, the driver of the Toyota Hilux pickup implicated in the fatal Nnamulanda crash on Entebbe Road. The incident, which occurred on August 7, 2026, resulted in the deaths of two Next Media journalists, Badru Kasirye and Isaac Ndamagye, and severe injuries to presenter Brian “Makona” Ssemanda.

Traffic Police spokesperson SP Michael Kananura confirmed Kigozi’s arrest, stating he was apprehended following a joint inter-agency operation. Kananura indicated that the suspect will be brought before the courts to face charges stemming from the collision.

The two journalists tragically lost their lives at the scene. They were travelling in a Toyota Allex, returning to Kampala after covering a boxing event, when their vehicle was involved in a head-on collision with Kigozi’s Toyota Hilux around 2 am. Police reports suggest the Hilux veered into the oncoming lane.

Brian Ssemanda, also a Next Media presenter, sustained serious injuries and received intensive medical care. Colleagues and the public have been closely following his recovery. Next Media CEO Kin Kariisa recently visited Ssemanda at Case Hospital, underscoring the company’s support for the injured presenter and the families of the deceased.

The deaths have deeply impacted Uganda’s media fraternity, prompting widespread grief and tributes to Kasirye and Ndamagye. The media industry and public figures have rallied to support the affected families and colleagues during this difficult time.
