Two Convicted in Engineer Daniel Bbosa Assassination Case After Pleading Guilty

The High Court in Kampala has convicted Lujja Bbosa Tabula and Noah Lugya for their roles in the assassination of Engineer Daniel Bbosa, the former leader of the Ndiga Clan. Both suspects pleaded guilty to the murder charges, confirming the prosecution’s account of the events.

Justice David Matovu formally convicted the pair after the state prosecutors presented the case details. While Tabula and Lugya admitted their guilt, three other co-accused individuals—Harriet Nakiguli, Joseph Nakabake, and Ezra Mayanja—maintain their innocence and will proceed to trial.

Engineer Bbosa was tragically gunned down on February 25, 2024, in Kikandwa, Lungujja, as he returned home from a clan function. His vehicle was targeted by assailants on a motorcycle near his residence. Following the shooting, local boda-boda riders pursued the attackers, leading to the apprehension of Lugya and the death of another suspect, Enock Sserunkuma, who was killed by a mob. Lugya was rescued and taken to the hospital.

Investigations revealed that the murder stemmed from a leadership dispute within the Ndiga Clan, with Tabula reportedly contesting Eng. Bbosa’s leadership and claiming the position as his own. Tabula is alleged to have supplied the murder weapon, an AK-47 rifle recovered near the crime scene, which ballistic tests confirmed was operational and matched spent cartridges found at the location. Lugya confessed to participating in the killing on Tabula’s orders, identifying Sserunkuma as the gunman.

Prosecutors presented extensive evidence, including CCTV footage, call records, and forensic reports, to support their case. Planning meetings for the assassination were reportedly held between November and December 2023, with various methods, including poisoning, being discussed before the shooting was carried out.
