Gen Muhoozi Urges Retired UPDF Officers to Continue National Service

General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), has called upon 222 senior officers of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) who are retiring not to consider their service to the nation over. During a ceremony at the UPDF Joint Services Headquarters in Mbuya, Kampala, Gen. Kainerugaba urged the departing Colonels, Lieutenant Colonels, and Majors to embrace retirement as a transition into a new chapter of civic leadership and continued national contribution.

“I encourage you to see this not as the end of service, but as a new phase in your contributions to the country. I urge you to remain ambassadors of patriotism, discipline, and the unity of our people,” Gen. Kainerugaba stated. He emphasized that their extensive experience and skills are invaluable and can be used to mentor younger generations, promote peace, and support local development initiatives.

Gen. Kainerugaba also advised the retiring officers on prudent financial management as they transition into civilian life. He urged them to use their retirement benefits wisely, plan meticulously, and maintain financial discipline to ensure their long-term well-being.

The CDF lauded the retiring officers for their dedication and the solid foundation they have helped build within the UPDF, contributing to its evolution into a respected defense force on the continent. He acknowledged that the army’s expansion of capabilities to address contemporary challenges, from counter-terrorism to climate-related disasters, has been underpinned by the commitment of officers like those retiring.

Major General James Kinalwa, head of Joint Staff – Human Resource Management, described the retirement as part of the UPDF’s personnel renewal strategy, viewing it as an opening to new opportunities rather than a closure. The retirement ceremony included notable officers such as Colonel Kajungu Rutinampora, Colonel David Mugisha, and Colonel Henry Turyatunga, among others.
