Masaka Diocese Bishop Appoints New Clergy and Reshuffles Existing Priests

Bishop Severus Jjumba has initiated a series of pastoral appointments and reassignments within the Masaka Diocese, affecting numerous priests. The changes, detailed in a statement dated August 3, 2026, aim to optimize the distribution of clerical resources to better serve the faithful.
Several key positions have seen new leadership. Rev Fr Andrew Kyamufumba moves from Our Lady of Sorrows Cathedral, Kitovu, to Mannya Parish as Assistant Parish Priest, with Fr. Deusdedit Sseruwu taking over his previous role after completing studies at Kisubi University. Fr Denis Ssebadduka transitions from director of Butende Brick Factory to diocesan general treasurer, succeeding Fr. Edward Anselm Ssemwogerere, who is now assistant priest at Kitaasa Parish and also heads the diocesan audit team and tourism office.
Further adjustments include Fr George William Ssemmombwe taking charge as assistant priest at Kyotera Parish, while Fr Emmanuel Kayongo becomes the new director of Narozari Farm. Fr Henry Kiganda is appointed deputy head teacher at Archbishop’s Secondary School in Kitovu, and Fr Joseph Kato Bakulu joins Bukalasa Seminary after a sabbatical. Fr Martin Stuart Kibirige is the new parish priest for Lukaya Parish.
Newly ordained priests have also been assigned to various parishes, including Fr Alexander Muzingu at Namaaale Parish, Fr Tonny Walusansa at Mutukula Parish, and Fr Michael Ssettuba at Makondo Parish. This broad reassignment signifies a strategic effort by Bishop Jjumba to invigorate the diocese’s pastoral outreach.
These appointments mark the latest in a series of significant changes implemented by Bishop Jjumba since he assumed office in July 2019. The Masaka Diocese, which serves over a million Catholics, spans numerous districts, including Kalungu, Ssembabule, Lwengo, Bukomansimbi, Kalangala, Masaka, Kyotera, Rakai, Lyantonde, and Masaka City, all under the Kampala Archdiocese.
