Youth Leaders Urged to Deliver Tangible Results, Not Just Hold Positions

Minister of State for Youth and Children’s Affairs, Mercy Faith Lakisa, has issued a strong call to action for youth leaders across Uganda. She urged them to move beyond the mere possession of leadership positions and to focus on delivering concrete, measurable results that address the challenges faced by young people.

Speaking at the Annual National Youth Council Sitting, held in anticipation of International Youth Day, Minister Lakisa stressed that young Ugandans are not just future leaders, but present-day architects of the nation’s development. “Young people are not leaders of tomorrow, they are leaders today,” she declared.

Lakisa challenged the Youth Council to fundamentally shift its priorities. The focus, she explained, should transition from seeking positions to creating tangible impact, from lodging complaints to formulating practical solutions, and from making promises to undertaking measurable actions. This shift, she believes, is crucial for meaningful progress.

Furthermore, the Minister highlighted the importance of holistic empowerment. Beyond equipping youth with skills, opportunities, and platforms, it is essential to cultivate their confidence and ensure their active participation in Uganda’s development trajectory. “Our young people must be empowered with the skills, opportunities, platforms and confidence to shape Uganda’s transformation, not as spectators, but as active architects of our nation’s future,” Lakisa stated.

She encouraged young leaders to leverage their influence to champion service, foster innovation, and promote unity within their communities. International Youth Day, Lakisa concluded, should serve as both a celebration of youth potential and a powerful reminder of their responsibility to contribute significantly to the country’s advancement.
