Police Crack SC Villa Captain's Murder Case Through Phone Tracking and Informant Network

The Uganda Police Force has made significant progress in the investigation into the tragic death of SC Villa captain David Owori, arresting six of the ten key suspects believed to be involved.
Owori was fatally attacked last Tuesday night in Makindye Division, Kampala. A gang reportedly struck him on the head before robbing him of his belongings, leaving him for dead. Passers-by discovered him and rushed him to Case Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries the following day.
The breakthrough in the case came through a combination of advanced technological tracking and traditional human intelligence. Detectives initially tracked the signal of Owori’s stolen iPhone 14 Pro Max, which led them to the Lugala-Masanafu area in Rubaga Division. While the signal eventually went dead, this provided a crucial starting point.
Investigators then leveraged human intelligence in the area, identifying individuals who dealt in stolen mobile phones. This led to the arrest of a phone dealer who subsequently provided information about his network. Further investigation and the use of an informant in the Usafi Market area allowed police to recover Owori’s phone, which had been wrapped in aluminum foil to obscure its signal.
This recovery, along with other gathered electronic and human intelligence, pointed towards a gang operating in Makindye Division. Raids on suspects’ homes led to the apprehension of several individuals.
During interrogations, some of the arrested suspects confessed to participating in the robbery and murder, with each implicating others in taking a leading role. One suspect described how the gang targeted Owori, mistaking him for an easy target. Items belonging to the deceased, including his bag and football boots, were also recovered from the home of one of the suspects, Araali, who managed to evade arrest but whose wife was taken into custody.
The police have recovered several items, including clothes and shoes the suspects allegedly wore during the attack, with some exhibits showing bloodstains. The investigation is ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects.
