A Senior Four student from Masaka Secondary School, identified as 16-year-old Rayati Nassali Nakato, has been found dead in Masaka under mysterious circumstances. Nakato was reported missing after she left her home in Nyendo Township on Sunday, August 9, to collect revision papers from a friend.

Later that afternoon, Nakato reportedly contacted her twin sister, informing her that she had gone to Nabugabo Sand Beach. Her phone subsequently went unanswered, raising concerns among her family.

The following evening, residents discovered a teenage body by the roadside along the Nyendo-Kako Road, which leads to the beach. The deceased was positively identified as Rayati Nassali Nakato.

Southern Regional Police Spokesperson, Twaha Kasirye, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation has been launched. Police are exploring the possibility that Nakato may have been sexually assaulted and then killed by unknown assailants, noting bruises found around her neck. Kasirye urged parents to exercise caution and ensure their children are accompanied by adults when leaving home.

In a separate incident in Kalungu, police are investigating the death of a man identified as Richard, whose body was also found dumped by the roadside. Richard was last seen at a bar in Lukaya Town Council before his body was discovered. Both bodies have been transported to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem examinations.
