Four Detained Near Parliament Over Public Nuisance Allegations

Four individuals have been apprehended by police along Parliamentary Avenue in Kampala. The arrests occurred after the group was observed marching towards Parliament, displaying placards and chanting slogans.

According to authorities, the suspects, who are alleged to be members of “Rooted in Resistance,” were intercepted for allegedly causing a public nuisance and obstructing traffic.

The group was reportedly intending to submit a petition to Parliament, advocating for a new economic model focused on economic freedom and widespread prosperity for Ugandans.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire confirmed the detentions, stating that the suspects are currently held at the Central Police Station. He indicated that investigations are ongoing and the individuals will be processed for court proceedings.

“Four people have been arrested along Parliamentary Avenue on allegations of causing a public nuisance. They were holding placards, chanting and blocking the road,” Owoyesigire stated.

He further added that the necessary procedures are being completed to arraign the suspects in court as soon as possible.

As of the time of reporting, specific details regarding the identities of the arrested individuals or the exact charges they will face had not yet been released by the police.
