Stolen iPhone Leads Police to Suspects in SC Villa Captain's Murder

Investigations into the tragic murder of SC Villa captain David Owori have taken a significant turn with the arrest of two suspects. The breakthrough came after police managed to trace the victim’s stolen iPhone 14 Pro Max.
The apprehended individuals have been identified as Bashir Munyaneza, known as “Jemo,” who is believed to be involved in dealing stolen mobile phones, and his associate, Samuel Magoba. Both are currently in police custody and are cooperating with investigators.
Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke stated that further operations stemming from these arrests resulted in the recovery of four bags filled with numerous electronic devices, presumed to be stolen. The haul includes a substantial number of iPhones, Samsung phones, and other smartphone brands, alongside iPads and various SIM cards.
Owori, a prominent defender and captain for one of Uganda’s top football clubs, was attacked last week while returning home from training. His assailants, reportedly on a motorcycle, allegedly assaulted him and stole his phone and cash before fleeing. He later succumbed to his injuries.
The incident has reignited concerns about violent street robberies in Kampala, particularly those involving motorcycle-borne attackers. Residents have voiced demands for increased police presence and better street lighting in affected areas.
President Yoweri Museveni has called for enhanced security measures and investigations into potential negligence or corruption within the police force that might be enabling such crimes.
Authorities are urging the public who may have lost phones or other valuables recently to visit police stations to identify any recovered property. The investigation is ongoing to uncover the full extent of the criminal network involved.
