SC Villa Captain David Owori Buried Amidst Calls for Justice

Hundreds gathered in Bendo Village, Tororo District, to bid a final farewell to SC Villa’s former captain, David Owori. Owori tragically passed away after being attacked by suspected assailants while on his way home in Kampala. The incident has sent shockwaves through the football fraternity, igniting widespread calls for swift justice and a comprehensive investigation into his death.

During the burial, Owori was remembered by former teammates, club officials, and football administrators as a dedicated and inspirational sportsman. His commitment was highlighted as a key factor in SC Villa’s recent successes, including two Uganda Premier League titles. “He was one player who gave us confidence… he gave us the morale to work hard,” shared a former teammate, emphasizing Owori’s positive influence.

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) also paid tribute, with representatives questioning the motive behind the attack. “The question is, why Owori? This is what still remains in the minds of the public,” stated Rodgers Mulindwa, representing FUFA President Moses Magogo. Concerns were raised about a potential pattern, referencing the recent death of a rugby player, and stressing the need for clarity from the police.

Owori’s widow also shared heartfelt memories, describing him as a devoted husband and father who prioritized his family. The SC Villa president’s representative, Assan Kasingye, who also spoke from a security perspective, revealed that police have made progress in the investigation. Several suspects have been apprehended, and Owori’s recovered phone is reportedly being used as crucial evidence. Kasingye confirmed that six suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident.

SC Villa has pledged to support Owori’s family, including funding his son’s education. The football community remains united in its grief and determination to honor the legacy of the fallen captain.
