Mitooma District has seen eight senior staff members placed under interdiction, a temporary suspension pending investigations. The decision was announced by the District Chief Administrative Officer, Mr. Masereka Amis Asuman, following directives prompted by complaints and a recent visit from Local Government Minister Balaam Barugahara.

The interdicted officials include the District Health Officer, Dr. Sadic Byamugisha; District Education Officer, Barungi Peace Gloria; Civil Engineer (Water), Eng. Godfrey Tumusiime; and Senior Environment Officer, Godwin Kagumir. Also affected are Senior Assistant Secretary Vincent Rugamba, driver Godfrey Mugumya, Medical Officer Dr. Patrick Oloya, and Ag. District Engineer John Baptist Tumwebaze.

Minister Barugahara, accompanied by his assistant Justine Nameere, is conducting nationwide tours to combat corruption, ghost workers, and poor service delivery in local governments. The directive to interdict the Mitooma staff aims to facilitate a thorough investigation by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit and other relevant government bodies.

According to the Public Service Standing Orders of 2021, interdiction suspends an officer’s duties for up to six months. During this period, officials receive half their basic salary and are prohibited from leaving the country or visiting their workplaces without authorization. This action underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening accountability and transparency in public service delivery across Uganda.
