SC Villa Captain David Owori Murder: Stolen iPhone Leads Police to Suspects

Homicide detectives investigating the murder of SC Villa captain David Owori have reportedly made a significant breakthrough, recovering the deceased’s stolen iPhone 14 Pro Max. The tracking of the high-value smartphone is said to have directly led investigators to two suspects, identified as Munyaneza Bashir, allegedly a dealer in stolen mobile phones, and his associate Magoba Samuel.

Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke confirmed the development, stating that the recovery of the phone was instrumental in identifying the suspects. During an operation linked to the investigation, security personnel also seized a large quantity of suspected stolen electronic devices, including numerous iPhones, Samsung phones, iPads, and various SIM cards. Authorities are working to establish the full extent of the syndicate’s network and link the recovered items to other reported cases.

SC Villa spokesperson Asan Kasingye commended the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) for their swift action, expressing the club’s confidence in the ongoing investigation to apprehend all perpetrators and uncover the motive behind Owori’s killing. The 28-year-old footballer was tragically ambushed outside his home in Makindye on the evening of August 4, 2026, and succumbed to his injuries the following morning.

Owori’s death has sent shockwaves through Ugandan football and highlighted concerns about the rise in urban crime. The versatile player was a key member of SC Villa, helping them secure the Uganda Premier League title in 2024. His last match was in the FUFA Super 8 quarterfinals on August 1.
