The Uganda Police Force has reiterated its strong commitment to participating in regional peace support missions. This assurance comes as the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) conducts a crucial verification exercise to assess Uganda’s preparedness.

Deputy Inspector General of Police, James Ocaya, met with an EASF delegation at Police Headquarters, led by Ronald Rwivanga. Ocaya emphasized that the force is operationally ready to contribute to peace and security within the region whenever required.

“Maintaining a high level of preparedness is essential to safeguarding the credibility and effectiveness of peacekeeping missions,” Ocaya stated. He further confirmed that all police personnel designated for potential deployment have successfully completed the mandatory pre-deployment training.

This training encompasses critical areas such as International Humanitarian Law, International Human Rights Law, and other operational requirements, ensuring personnel are equipped to serve professionally and adhere to international standards. The force’s ongoing investment in training underscores its dedication to excellence in peacekeeping.

Uganda’s continued support for the EASF was also reaffirmed, highlighting the importance of this partnership in bolstering regional stability. The EASF’s verification mission is a standard procedure aimed at ensuring member states can deploy trained and capable personnel to address conflicts, humanitarian crises, and security challenges across Eastern Africa.

This exercise allows for an assessment of the readiness and availability of pledged forces, confirming Uganda’s capacity to meet its international commitments. Uganda has a consistent record of contributing to peace support missions, with its police force playing an increasingly vital role in promoting peace and security throughout Eastern Africa.
