Tragedy struck the Kabale-Mbarara highway on Friday morning when a speeding lorry collided with a motorcycle, leading to the death of one person and injuries to three others.
The incident occurred near Karubanda village in Kabale District. Eyewitnesses reported that the lorry, traveling at a high speed, lost control and veered into the path of an oncoming motorcycle carrying four occupants.
The impact was severe, throwing the motorcycle riders and passengers off the vehicle. Emergency services were quickly dispatched to the scene. Despite their efforts, one individual succumbed to their injuries en route to the hospital.
The injured parties, whose conditions are described as serious but stable, have been admitted to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for further treatment. Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident, with preliminary reports suggesting excessive speed and possible mechanical failure as contributing factors.
This unfortunate event has reignited concerns among local residents and frequent users of the Kabale-Mbarara highway about road safety. Many have voiced their appeals to the government for the implementation of stricter traffic regulations and the installation of speed bumps and warning signs along the treacherous stretch of road. They hope that increased visibility and enforcement will prevent future tragedies.
