For years, Claire Nansikombi battled her weight, trying various diets, calorie counting, and exercise routines with little success. She recounts feeling a constant mental struggle with food, a “food noise” that dominated her thoughts.
Her life before embarking on a new weight loss journey was marked by significant health challenges, including high blood pressure, prediabetes, chronic body aches, and persistent fatigue. Despite building businesses and raising her daughter, Claire knew her health was not on an optimal path.
In June 2025, after a particularly discouraging experience where her efforts led to weight gain, Claire decided to try an injectable prescription medication, Mounjaro. She describes the first few months as a revelation, not just for the physical changes but for the mental freedom she experienced. “Suddenly I was not constantly thinking about what I had eaten, should not eat, wanted to eat, or how much self-control I needed to get through the day,” she shared.
The medication, combined with a strong support system including her family and online community, and guided by professional nutritional counseling, helped her lose over 50 kilograms in a year. Claire emphasizes that the medication is a tool, not a magic cure, and her success is also attributed to learning balanced nutrition, developing a healthier relationship with food through psychotherapy, and incorporating daily exercise.
Beyond the physical transformation, Claire highlights a significant mental and emotional shift. Her confidence and productivity have soared, and the burden of constant weight preoccupation has lifted, allowing her to focus more on her daughter and businesses. While acknowledging the financial commitment and the psychological adjustment to her new body, Claire stresses the importance of medical supervision and warns against counterfeit products.
She urges others considering medical weight loss to work with professionals, use medication as a tool, and focus on building sustainable habits. For Claire, choosing effective medical support for obesity was a practical decision, comparing the guaranteed risks of remaining obese with the possible risks of treatment, making the choice clear.
