Man Jailed for Allegedly Practicing Law Without a License

A man identified as Andrew Nsubuga Sekibaamu Jenkins, aged 28, has been remanded to Luzira prison by the Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly practicing law illegally. Senior Magistrate Winnie Nankya Jatiko presided over the arraignment on Tuesday.
Nsubuga faces two charges under the Advocates Act, Cap. 295. The first count accuses him of acting as an advocate without being qualified. Prosecutors claim that between February and December 2025, he represented Linda Witney Nagadya in a land case at the High Court’s Land Division, effectively conducting and defending the matter despite lacking legal authorization.
The second charge alleges that Nsubuga knowingly presented himself as a qualified advocate, contrary to the law. The prosecution contends that during the same period, he falsely held himself out as a legal practitioner, despite not being recognized or qualified by law to practice.
Nsubuga pleaded not guilty to both charges. His case has been adjourned, and he will remain in custody until August 19, 2026, when he is expected to appear in court again.
