The Special Forces Command (SFC) has seen a wave of leadership transitions as senior officers step into new roles. Lt. Col. Frank Murema is the latest to assume a significant command, taking over the 16 Service Brigade based in Busambaga, Entebbe.

Prior to this new assignment, Lt. Col. Murema served as the Deputy Director of Operations at SFC Headquarters, a role he officially handed over to Lt. Col. A.C. Kaawe. The transition at the 16 Service Brigade involved Lt. Col. Allen Atuhaire, who had been acting as the brigade’s head, presenting a report from the outgoing commander, Col. R.R. Tugume. Col. Tugume is now attending a strategic course at the National Defence College.

The report highlighted Col. Tugume’s tenure, noting the successful completion of key infrastructure projects such as modern storage facilities, fuel reserves, and a main quarter guard. These developments have substantially bolstered the brigade’s logistical and operational capabilities.

Maj. Gen. Asaph Mweteise Nyakikuru, Commander of the SFC, presided over the ceremony and lauded Col. Tugume for his dedicated leadership. He urged Lt. Col. Murema to build upon existing successes by emphasizing teamwork, integrity, professionalism, and robust coordination. Maj. Gen. Nyakikuru stressed the critical role of the 16 Service Brigade in supporting SFC welfare and logistics, underscoring that strong leadership and unity are vital for its continued contribution to operational success.

In further appointments, Lt. Col. Allen Atuhaire has been named Deputy Commander of the 16 Service Brigade. The position of Brigade Operations and Training Officer will be filled in the near future. Meanwhile, at SFC Headquarters, Col. Philip Mugizi acknowledged Lt. Col. Murema’s valuable contributions as Deputy Director of Operations and welcomed Lt. Col. Kaawe, encouraging him to embrace innovation and modern approaches.

Senior SFC officials, including the new Chief of Staff Brig. Gen. John Mango Baraza and Director of Human Resource Management Col. Night Ikiriza, were in attendance, alongside other officers and non-commissioned officers.
