Police in Namutumba District are actively searching for a man identified as Moses Ngobi, who is suspected of fatally assaulting his own brother, Rogers Mbiire. The tragic incident is reported to have stemmed from a long-standing land dispute between the two siblings.
According to local reports, the altercation occurred on Monday evening. Preliminary investigations suggest that the dispute escalated into a physical confrontation, during which Ngobi allegedly used a blunt object to strike Mbiire. Eyewitnesses have reportedly provided accounts to the police detailing the events leading up to the fatal assault.
The victim, Rogers Mbiire, was rushed to a nearby health facility but succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival. The Namutumba District Police Commander, Superintendent Richard Mugenyi, confirmed the incident and stated that a manhunt for the suspect, Moses Ngobi, has been launched.
Superintendent Mugenyi urged the public to cooperate with the police by providing any information that could lead to Ngobi’s apprehension. He emphasized that land disputes, while common, should never escalate to such extreme violence and that the perpetrator will be brought to justice.
This incident is a stark reminder of the persistent challenges posed by land conflicts in various parts of Uganda, often leading to severe consequences, including loss of life. The police are appealing for calm and requesting that any disputes be resolved through legal channels rather than resorting to violence.
