Authorities in Jinja District are investigating the brutal murder of Yosia Kayima, a local boda boda rider whose body was discovered on Monday morning. The grim scene was found in a sugarcane plantation in Mutai Village, Buwenge Sub-county. Preliminary reports suggest Kayima was killed by unknown assailants who subsequently made off with his motorcycle.
Local residents alerted leaders after stumbling upon the body. Police were called to the scene, documented the area, and transported Kayima’s remains for a postmortem examination. The incident has heightened fears in the community, particularly among motorcycle taxi operators who often work late hours.
Leaders have expressed deep concern over what they describe as a disturbing escalation of violent crime in the region. “This is not an isolated incident. We have lost at least five people in similar attacks in recent months,” stated Mr. Lazaro Isabirye, Vice Chairperson of Mutai Central. He urged security forces to enhance patrols and intelligence gathering to restore public safety.
Echoing these sentiments, Ms. Namaganda Katwaalo, Woman Representative for Mutai Busibe, condemned the killing and emphasized the need for collaborative security efforts. Jinja District LCV Chairperson Mr. Moses Bataala highlighted Mutai as a crime hotspot and called for government intervention, including the installation of CCTV cameras along the main road to deter criminals and aid investigations.
Mr. George Wilson Bameka, Acting Resident District Commissioner for Jinja, confirmed the ongoing investigation and assured the public that perpetrators are being pursued. He appealed for public cooperation in providing information. The stolen motorcycle remains unrecovered as police continue their probe into the murder and aggravated robbery.
