Watoto Church Hosts Special Thanksgiving for Kabaka's 33rd Coronation Anniversary

A significant thanksgiving service was held at Watoto Church East in Bweyogerere, marking the 33rd anniversary of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II’s coronation. The occasion saw a large turnout of worshippers, with top officials from the Buganda Kingdom and the Ugandan government in attendance.

Leading the Buganda delegation was the Kingdom’s Prime Minister, Charles Peter Mayiga, who was joined by the Nnaabagereka. The government’s presence was notable, with Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja and several other ministers and Members of Parliament present, highlighting the national importance of the celebration.

This year’s service was hosted by Watoto Church, a tradition initiated by the Kabaka to rotate the venue among different places of worship. This practice aims to foster religious harmony and strengthen national unity across Uganda.

During the service, prayers were offered for the Kabaka’s continued health and wise leadership, as well as for the prosperity of the Buganda Kingdom and the peace of the nation. Messages celebrating the Kabaka’s dedication to cultural heritage and national progress were also delivered.

The anniversary commemorates the enthronement of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II on July 31, 1993, following the restoration of traditional monarchies. Over his 33-year reign, the Kabaka has been instrumental in advancing initiatives in education, healthcare, environmental stewardship, and cultural preservation, while also promoting socio-economic development throughout Buganda.

The annual thanksgiving service serves as a major event for the Buganda Kingdom, uniting cultural leaders, government representatives, diplomats, business leaders, and the Kabaka’s subjects to celebrate his reign and reaffirm their commitment to the kingdom’s values and development goals.
