Wakiso Village Leaders Cry Foul, Demand Vote Rigging Probe

Several former village chairpersons in Wakiso District have voiced strong objections to the recent local council elections, demanding a thorough investigation into alleged vote rigging and malpractices.

In Nkumba–Bufulu village, the former chairperson, Mr. John Chrysestom Luboobi, claims that military personnel were involved in the electoral process, allegedly intimidating voters and influencing the outcome. He asserts that the election was not free and fair, leading to his defeat under questionable circumstances.

Similar concerns have been echoed by other defeated candidates across various villages in the district. They point to issues such as ballot stuffing, discrepancies in vote counting, and a lack of transparency during the tallying process. These leaders argue that the integrity of the election has been compromised, undermining the democratic will of the people.

The aggrieved chairpersons are calling on the Electoral Commission and relevant authorities to launch an immediate and impartial probe into their allegations. They seek to have the results nullified and fresh elections conducted under a more secure and transparent environment. The leaders emphasized that their demand is not just about personal loss but about upholding the principles of fair elections and ensuring that the voices of the community are accurately represented.
