Queens Affair Redefines Pageantry Beyond the Crown

The traditional image of a beauty queen, often associated with glamour and a coveted crown, is being challenged by a new movement emphasizing purpose and leadership. Ronah Vivian Kisakye, a Ugandan pageantry personality and advocate for women’s empowerment, hosted the first-ever Queens Affair, an event designed to redefine the role of beauty queens.

Under the theme “Beyond the Crown: Women Thriving in Professional, Creative and Business Spaces,” the event brought together beauty queens, entrepreneurs, professionals, creatives, and policymakers. Kisakye stated that a crown symbolizes more than just beauty; it represents leadership, service, resilience, purpose, and influence. She noted that many titleholders possess significant potential but often lack the necessary mentorship and networks to transition successfully beyond the pageant stage.

Queens Affair aims to bridge this gap by connecting aspiring women with established leaders. The event featured insights from key figures, including Kenya’s High Commissioner to Uganda, H.E. Hon. Ababu Namwamba, who encouraged regional collaboration in East Africa. Irene T. Kauma, Permanent Secretary in the Office of the First Lady and the Ministry of Education and Sports, delivered a keynote address titled “Leading Beyond the Crown,” urging participants to build legacies rooted in purpose.

Manuela P. Mulondo, a business and leadership mentor, also spoke, encouraging attendees to discover their purpose and use their talents for community impact. A significant development from the event was the unveiling of the “Empower Her Initiative,” a mentorship program to cultivate young women in pageantry into confident leaders and changemakers.

Kisakye envisions Queens Affair as a continuous movement, extending beyond the annual event through ongoing mentorship, leadership forums, networking opportunities, masterclasses, and community outreach. This initiative aligns with a global trend where beauty queens increasingly use their platforms to champion social causes such as education, mental health, climate action, and gender equality.

Ultimately, the vision behind Queens Affair is to foster a generation of women who understand that true queenship is measured by the positive impact they create and the legacies they build, far beyond the initial spotlight of a crown. This event seeks to equip them with the skills and connections to make a lasting difference.
