Air Force Cadets Enhance Aviation Security Skills at Entebbe Airport

Students from the Uganda Air Force College have received invaluable hands-on experience in aviation security through a recent visit to Entebbe International Airport. This practical training session, part of their ongoing aviation security course, provided 261 cadets and their 19 instructors, led by Chief Instructor Col. James Uma Ali, with a direct look into the complexities of airport operations and security.

Officials from the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA), including Chief Security Officer Maj. Swalik Kakaire Magezi and Principal Security Officer Operations Kenneth Nkurikiyimana, welcomed the delegation. The visit was meticulously designed to allow students to connect the theoretical concepts learned in the classroom with the daily functions of a bustling international airport.

During their time at Entebbe, the Airport Duty Manager, Ronnie Bbossa, delivered a comprehensive briefing. He detailed the formation and responsibilities of the UCAA, alongside an in-depth overview of various airport operations. This presentation offered the future aviation security professionals a clear understanding of how the airport functions and the critical role of the UCAA in ensuring safety, security, and operational efficiency.

The cadets also engaged directly with airport security and operations personnel, gaining practical insights into the real-time application of security procedures. This interaction underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in safeguarding Uganda’s airspace.

The training concluded with an extensive tour of the airport’s facilities, allowing the students to observe firsthand the systems and infrastructure discussed during their academic sessions. This immersive experience is expected to significantly deepen their understanding of the measures required to maintain a secure and efficient aviation environment. As global aviation faces evolving security challenges, such practical engagements are vital for equipping personnel with the necessary skills and knowledge.
