Uganda Airlines is reportedly facing internal turmoil as a significant media probe, allocated Shs 3 billion, has been stalled. The investigation was launched last year by former CEO Jennifer Bamuturaki to counter negative press and improve the airline’s public image. However, the probe lost momentum after Bamuturaki’s departure in February 2026.

Sources within the airline indicate that the Shs 3 billion was earmarked for public relations efforts, but the strategy seemingly backfired, leading to more negative coverage. Bamuturaki consequently ordered an internal investigation into the fund’s utilization, tasking a senior member of the internal audit department to deliver a report within three months.

Following Bamuturaki’s exit, the investigation appears to have been abandoned. Allegations suggest that top officials implicated in the misuse of funds exerted pressure on the investigating team’s leader, whose contract was due for renewal. The head of the probe’s contract was reportedly renewed in April 2026, coinciding with the apparent death of the investigation, with no progress reports being issued since.

The airline’s current management is led by CEO Girma Wake, who reportedly faces ongoing power struggles within the board and management. Changes include the non-renewal of contracts for Bamuturaki’s allies and the alleged recruitment of staff from Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) for key positions, a practice referred to as ‘UNOCalising’ the airline. This, coupled with the stalled probe, has created an atmosphere of unease among staff and management.

Attempts to get a comment from the airline’s spokesperson, Shakilah Lamar, were unsuccessful as she was unreachable at her known contact number.
