The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) is set to deepen its partnership with private sector entities, aiming to bolster the production and utilization of reliable statistics. This initiative seeks to support informed planning, investment decisions, and overall industrial expansion in Uganda.

The commitment was solidified during a recent visit by a UBOS delegation, led by Deputy Executive Director Dr. Vincent Ssenono, to the manufacturing facilities of Roofings Limited at the Kampala Industrial and Business Park in Namanve.

During the visit, Roofings Limited’s Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Dr. Martin F. Kyeyune, provided the UBOS team with an overview of the company’s trajectory, its operational scope, investment journey, and its significant contributions to Uganda’s economic landscape. The discussion highlighted how accurate data is crucial for enhancing productivity, improving competitiveness, and accelerating the nation’s industrial transformation.

Roofings Limited, which has grown from a modest $2 million investment in 1994 to a company now valued at over $500 million, expressed a strong interest in collaborating more closely with UBOS. The steel manufacturer seeks improved access to trade statistics, industrial production data, export market intelligence, and sector performance indicators. The company believes that a robust partnership with the national statistics agency will provide credible and timely data to guide strategic planning, production, investment, and market expansion efforts, thereby reducing reliance on unverified information.

UBOS reiterated its dedication to generating high-quality, dependable official statistics that cater to the needs of the government, private sector, development partners, and the general public. The bureau emphasized the importance of strengthening ties with industry players to improve the National Statistical System and encourage the wider production and use of demand-driven statistics for effective decision-making.

Roofings Group CEO, Sheikh Arif, noted that the engagement reinforced institutional ties and the shared vision of using data as a catalyst for industrial advancement, innovation, competitiveness, and sustainable economic development.
