Speaker Oboth Backs Openness in Ebola Response, Citing National Interest

Speaker Anita Among has strongly defended Uganda’s commitment to transparency and openness in managing public health emergencies, particularly in the context of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).

During a recent press briefing, Speaker Among emphasized that the nation’s stance prioritizes the well-being of its citizens and the broader national interest over potential economic repercussions.

She highlighted that Uganda has consistently opted for openness, even when faced with the possibility of economic impacts, asserting that this approach is crucial for effective disease control and public trust.

“We do not consider economic implications when it comes to the lives of our people. Uganda has been very open and we will continue to be,” stated Among, underscoring the government’s unwavering dedication to safeguarding public health.
