Museveni Calls for Removal of Trade Barriers in East Africa

President Yoweri Museveni has pressed for the immediate removal of trade impediments within the East African Community (EAC) bloc. Speaking at an event where new envoys presented their credentials, the Ugandan leader stressed that fostering a robust, interconnected regional economy is paramount for the prosperity of all member states.

Museveni articulated his vision for a more integrated East Africa, highlighting that eliminating tariffs, non-tariff barriers, and bureaucratic hurdles will unlock greater economic potential. He noted that such measures are crucial for facilitating the free movement of goods, services, and people, thereby enhancing intra-EAC trade and creating a larger, more competitive market.

The President also underscored Uganda’s unwavering dedication to collaborating with all friendly nations, both within and outside the region. He emphasized that strong diplomatic ties and mutual respect are foundational to achieving shared goals of peace, security, and economic development.

As new ambassadors and high commissioners begin their terms, Museveni expressed optimism that they will contribute to strengthening the existing relationships and forging new partnerships. He specifically called for a renewed focus on cooperative efforts to address common challenges and advance the EAC’s integration agenda, ultimately benefiting the citizens of the partner states.
