Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Kikuube, Godwin Angalia, has put a stop to the planned commissioning of rehabilitated classrooms and a latrine at Kibararu Primary School. The decision comes after an inspection revealed significant issues with the quality of work, failing to meet contractual obligations.
Angalia expressed his dissatisfaction during an on-site assessment in Buhimba Sub-county, emphasizing that public funds must result in durable and quality infrastructure. He was joined by Kikuube District Vice Chairperson Vincent Opio and other local government officials during the inspection.
The RDC issued a stern warning to contractors undertaking government projects within the district. He stressed the importance of strict adherence to the Bill of Quantities (BOQ) and the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed with the Kikuube District Local Government, stating there will be “no tolerance for shoddy work.”
The contractor has been given a strict three-week deadline to rectify all identified defects and complete the project according to the agreed-upon specifications. Failure to comply could result in legal action and potential arrest.
District officials, including members of the District Executive Committee, security personnel, the Chief Administrative Officer, and technical officers, were present during the evaluation. Vice Chairperson Opio pledged to implement President Museveni’s directive for vigilant oversight of government projects to ensure value for money and adherence to required standards.
The school facilities will remain uncommissioned until all defects are corrected and the project is officially certified as meeting the necessary quality benchmarks.
