Officials from the Kingdom of Eswatini have expressed significant admiration for Uganda’s strides in automotive manufacturing following a comprehensive tour of the Kiira Vehicle Plant in Jinja. The delegation gained firsthand insight into Africa’s largest bus manufacturing facility, witnessing the production of both electric and conventional buses aimed at serving the continent.
Guided by Kiira Motors Corporation’s engineers, the visitors observed the entire vehicle production lifecycle, from assembly and engineering to quality assurance and final testing. The tour highlighted the technologies and systems underpinning Uganda’s ambition to establish itself as a regional hub for automotive production.
During the visit, the Eswatini officials were introduced to Kiira Motors’ diverse bus range, including modern electric city buses and long-distance coaches. They learned about the plant’s current annual production capacity of 2,500 vehicles, with ambitious plans to scale up to 10,000 units annually.
The delegation was also briefed on Kiira Motors’ forward-looking vision for an integrated electric mobility ecosystem. This includes strategic investments in charging infrastructure, localizing battery production, advancing smart mobility technologies, and ensuring robust after-sales maintenance services.
Engineers showcased passenger-centric features integrated into the buses, such as advanced climate control, Wi-Fi, USB charging, accessibility options for people with disabilities, and the availability of onboard restrooms for longer journeys. These innovations are designed to deliver reliable, affordable, and environmentally sustainable public transport solutions across Africa.
The Eswatini delegation also learned about the Pearl-to-Cape Electric Expedition, where a Kiira Motors electric coach successfully traversed over 13,700 kilometers, demonstrating the capability and performance of African-developed electric mobility solutions. The visit concluded with discussions exploring potential collaborations, signaling growing regional interest in Uganda’s automotive innovation and industrialization efforts.
