NUP Candidate Wins Nansana LC1 Poll Amidst Security Intervention After Voter Verification Chaos

Local Council One (LC1) elections in Nsumbi Village, Nansana Municipality, were temporarily thrown into disarray Tuesday morning, necessitating the intervention of security forces. Severe confusion erupted surrounding the voter verification process, leaving many residents unable to confirm their names on the register and stranded outside the polling station.

The situation quickly escalated as frustrated voters confronted election officials. In response to the growing tension, police and military personnel were dispatched to the scene to restore order and ensure the continuation of the electoral process.

One independent candidate, Patrick Ntalo, withdrew from the race, citing the “poor organization” of the verification exercise by election officials. He expressed dismay that many voters were left stranded, leading to his decision to step aside.

Further complications arose when some voters accused supporters of NUP candidate Robert Muwawu of attempting to dismiss those already in line, demanding they undergo another verification. This directive was met with resistance from voters who had already completed the initial verification.

Security personnel stepped in, establishing a protocol where voters needed to present both their voter cards and national identity cards to cast their ballots. This measure helped to calm the situation and allowed election officials to proceed with the voting.

After the disruptions were managed, NUP candidate Robert Muwawu was declared the winner, securing 518 votes. Muwawu expressed gratitude for the community’s trust and pledged to provide dedicated leadership. Security remained in place until the conclusion of the polls, which eventually ended peacefully.
