Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi, the former Member of Parliament for Butambala County, has surfaced at the Nateete Police Station, ending a period of over two weeks where his whereabouts were unknown. He was reportedly dropped off at the station early Wednesday morning by individuals believed to be state operatives.
Kivumbi was initially arrested on July 9, 2026, just after he had been granted bail on terrorism charges in the High Court’s International Crimes Division. His subsequent disappearance prompted urgent action from his legal team and family, who filed petitions with the High Court seeking his production or disclosure of his location.
This development occurs just days after Justice Collins Acellam of the High Court ordered the Chief of Defence Forces, the Inspector General of Police, and the Attorney General to investigate Kivumbi’s disappearance and submit a report. Responses from both the Attorney General and the Uganda Police Force to the court indicated no knowledge of his whereabouts.
As of the time of reporting, no official statement has been released by the police to clarify the circumstances of Kivumbi’s presence at Nateete Police Station, nor is it clear if he will face new charges, be released, or be brought before a court of law.
